TwitKit 1.1 Released

It’s finally here.

After over a month of dedicated work, we’ve decided to release TwitKit 1.1. This release (codenamed “Goldfinch”) focuses on UI improvements and an increase in stability. All of the code has been reorganized and cleaned up, making sure that it’s as fast as possible.

You’ll also see quite a few new features in this release - including SSL (secure) connection support, the ability to localize TwitKit (we have 3 new languages!), and a little ‘undock’ button that lets you take TwitKit out of the sidebar and into a separate window.

The UI has been redone in many ways - we’re now using the awesome Fugue icon set, and the tabs now have icons instead of words, which allows us to fit more features in there!

Also, due to popular request, the keyboard shortcut to open and close TwitKit has been changed - it’s now Control+Alt+A (Command+Option+A for Mac users).

The download page is updated and waiting for you.. so go ahead!

TwitKit Contest

IMPORTANT: We’ve modified the date of the contest - it is now on the 3rd instead of the 6th. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be holding a TwitKit contest! Here’s the quick details..

  • To qualify: Follow @twitkit and have used TwitKit for two or more days by Sunday, August 3rd.
  • To win: We’ll randomly pick one person from the list of people who qualified.
  • The prize: A $10 gift card to either Amazon or iTunes - you get to pick which one you want!

The details: On Sunday, August 3rd we will go through our list of followers and pick out everyone who used TwitKit from Friday, August 1st or earlier through the 3rd. These people who qualify will be entered into a numbered list. We’ll pick a random number and find the person associated with that number - then direct-message the winner!

Note: The champion will need to give us their email, so we know where to send the gift card - if he or she is not comfortable with this, we’ll pick a second person.

Do you want to be a TwitKit developer?

TwitKit was started in early April 2008, and has rapidly matured since then, most of the time from a single developer. Think of what could be achieved with extra help.. the possibilities are endless.

We’re currently looking for a few people who are skilled with Firefox extension development to join the team. This would not be binding in any way - you won’t be required to do anything, as the position is that of a volunteer. However, you would be expected to help out every now and then, whenever you have some free time.

If you’re looking for a project to join, TwitKit could be right for you. Please request to be a developer by leaving a comment on this post, or by emailing us at twitkit AT engel DOT uk DOT to.

TwitKit 1.0 Released

This is what you’ve all been waiting for.

After some waiting, it’s finally here. We decided that waiting for TwitKit to be approved at Mozilla Add-ons wasn’t the best idea, because it was taking a bit too long. So, here it is! TwitKit 1.0 is available for download, and it will be moved to Mozilla Add-ons once we’ve been approved.

If you’re ready, go ahead and download it.

If you have a problem, question, idea, or just want to talk to us, please visit our support site.

TwitKit 1.0b2 Released

Hey TwitKit users! Guess what—we released a second beta!

It turns out that we missed a ton of bugs in the first beta. So, in order for all of you to enjoy TwitKit even when it’s in beta, we released a second, much-more-fixed version.

If you’re ready, go ahead and get the download!

TwitKit 1.0 Beta Release

Well, it’s here! The beta of TwitKit 1.0 has been officially released. You can find a ton of info about the features of this beta, or just go ahead and try it out.

Remember, this is still a beta. There may be some bugs, but all (as far as we know) of the features have been fully implemented at this time. TwitKit, after entering its beta stage, is now feature-frozen—that basically means that no more features will be implemented until the final 1.0 version has been released, and until we start working on 1.1 (or whatever will come after 1.0). However, it definitely isn’t bug-frozen—and we’d love your help if you could assist us in finding some bugs. If you do find any, you can report them at our support site, and we’ll try to respond promptly.

Also, TwitKit has not yet been tested for compatibility with Firefox 3 Beta 4, and now that it’s released to the public, it would be a great time to ask for help with this. If you are able to do some testing with Firefox 3b4, we would appreciate it very much. Reporting is the same as the previous paragraph—just go to our support site and make a new issue.

We hope you all have a great time trying out and using TwitKit 1.0 Beta! We’ll post news about the official 1.0 release as things are decided.
